National Positions

Director/Assistant Director Selection Process

Applications will be posted on the NIRSA Championship Series volunteer website. The selection committee will review application materials and interview applicants as needed. At minimum, the selection committee will include:

  • Director of National Sport Programs or Designee
  • NIRSA Championship Series Vice Chair or Designee
  • NIRSA Championship Sport Work Team Chair
  • National Tournament Host Designee
  • Current Director for Associated Committee
  • Social Justice Task Force Member (if available)

All selections will be approved by the NIRSA Championship Series Executive Team.  Applicants will be notified of their initial application status within two (2) weeks of the application close date.

Committee Member Selection Process

  • Social Justice Task Force Member (if available)

Position Descriptions

  • Director/Assistant Director Required Experiences
    • Prior experience volunteering at a NIRSA state, regional, or national tournament
    • Completed undergraduate degree
    • Commitment to two (2) year term, the first of which you will serve as an assistant director
  • Director Responsibilities
    • Through regular communication, lead a group of NIRSA members to provide premier championship experiences delivered by qualified experts within a safe and inclusive environment
    • Serve as a positive brand ambassador for the NIRSA Championship Series
    • Maintain a current NIRSA professional membership for the duration of the position term
    • Attend monthly tournament planning meetings
    • Communicate regularly with the NIRSA Championship Series executive team and NIRSA headquarters staff
    • Complete post event reports by established deadline
    • Review staff applications and make selection recommendations as needed
    • Maintain availability during the entirety of the event
    • Uphold the principles, purpose, and promise of the NIRSA Championship Series
    • Uphold NIRSA’s Code of Ethics
    • Establish rules of play (consult with Tournament Director, Director of Officials, and Director of Unified)
    • Provide oversight and assistance in creation of game sheets/scorecards
    • Provide oversight and assistance in recording and posting results of competition
    • Organize a system that accurately and concisely tracks disciplinary issues
    • Schedule game play for all teams with input from regional stakeholders to avoid regular season and regional conflict
    • Input, track, and post scores from all games played throughout tournament
    • Facilitate tournament draw for playoff teams
    • Serve on Protest/Appeals Committee
    • Manage, train, and schedule committee members
    • Other duties as assigned by tournament director
