NIRSA Championship Series Non-Discrimination Policy

It is our stated position that the NSC upholds the tenets of the NIRSA Mission Statement to foster quality recreational programs, facilities and services for diverse populations and that it demonstrates a commitment to excellence by utilizing resources that promote ethical standards. Accordingly, the NSC does not tolerate discrimination against persons based on race, gender, religious affiliation, age, marital or civil union status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, intellectual development, or physical ability.

Positive Sporting Behavior Statement

The NIRSA Championship Series believes good sporting behavior is an integral component of intercollegiate competition.

We wholeheartedly embrace the position that, for positive sporting behavior to prevail, coaches, student-athletes, and fans must display respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility before, during, and after all athletic contests. The NIRSA Championship Series is committed to holding tournaments in a safe and inclusive environment free from bullying. Offensive language including profanity and/or derogatory remarks of any kind directed at officials, event staff, student-athletes, coaches, or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the competition site.

Unified Sports

Special Olympics Unified Sports® promotes social inclusion through shared sports training and competition by bringing together people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Through the principle of meaningful involvement, all players are given the opportunity to contribute to the success of the team. With that goal in mind, the following outlines eligibility requirements for Unified participation.

  • Unified partner: an individual without an intellectual disability who is a currently enrolled college student that meets all Player Eligibility Requirements.
  • Unified athlete: an individual with an intellectual disability that meets Special Olympics athlete eligibility requirements and is approved by their local Special Olympics Program. A Unified athlete can be a student OR member of the community.
