The 6:20pm games have been very intense, as teams are now figuring out that a win today will take pressure off of them to win later in desperate times. The 6:20pm games also saw the beginning of the Unified Division. This year, 12 teams are participating in the Unified Division, making it the largest entrant pool to date for the NIRSA National Basketball Championship. Athletes and partners alike battled throughout their game to take an early advantage going into tomorrow.
In the Men’s Club Division, James Madison University got the early jump on Northeastern Illinois University and stayed ahead the entire game, winning 67-36. Xander Cooke for JMU led the team with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
In the Unified Division, Eastern Washington showed why it’s a team to beat in the division, with a convincing 38-19 win over Texas A&M. Athlete Bryce Barlow had 12 points and 6 rebounds as he lead the team to its first victory. Partner Tinashe Matenga also contributed with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
In the Women’s Club Division, it was a high scoring affair for the Ithaca College/DePaul game. At the final buzzer, the Bombers of Ithaca College came out ahead, winning 51-43. Ithaca College’s Khyshwaunna Nance had 15 pts (4 3-pointers), 3 reb, 1 asst, 1 blk, 1 steal for the winners.
