There’s a bite in the air this morning as we began the 9:00am playoff games.  The temperature was in the 40s as we heard the first whistle blow to begin contests.  The air may be cool, but the action is heating up as teams are locked into survival mode to advance in the playoffs.  The first hour consists of the Men’s Division playoff bracket.  Here are the results of the 9:00am playoff games.

Men’s Playoff

Texas Southern – 34
Maryland – 6

HIGHLIGHT GAME
Georgia College – 35
Florida A&M – 28

A back and forth game all four quarters, no team lead by more than a touchdown the entire game.  In a last ditch attempt to win the game, FAMU’s Zachery Lewis’ pass fell short of Jermaine Archer with a 4th and goal line to gain.   Georgia College would escape with a win and advance in the bracket.

Mitch Risley of Georgia College went OFF in this game, throwing for two TD and running for 3 more, easily making him the MVP of the game.  Braxton Roberts and Jackson Sutko each hauled in a TD pass.  Michael LaHood would add three tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball.  For FAMU, Zachery Lewis would toss two TD passes, one to Jermaine Archer and another to Cedric Tisdale.  Tisdale, Demetrius Bradwell, and Trey Threatt would also add a tackle for loss.

Texas-Rio Grande Valley – 52
Southern – 19

Stephen F. Austin – 33
Missouri-Kansas City – 13

Alabama A&M – 25
Columbus State – 20

Georgia Southern – 26
Nebraska-Omaha – 20

HIGHLIGHT GAME
UCF – 19
Bloomsburg University – 18

It was a battle from start to finish for both teams.  UCF went into the half with a 13-6 lead.  UCF extended their lead to 19-6 before Bloomsburg battled back with two later touchdowns to close the gap to 19-18.  However, it would be UCF coming up victorious as they blocked a last second attempt by Bloomsburg to secure a win.

Nick Guidetti threw three TD passes for UCF, two to Tyler Hicks and one to Tyler Peppers.  Devonte Shackelford had a stellar defensive performance with tackle for loss and a huge pressure to keep Bloomsburg on their toes.  Tyler Trimarchi also threw three TD passes for Bloomsburg, two to Blake Marks and one to Nicholas Emmett.  Anthony Rossino had two tackles for loss in the losing effort.

The next set of playoff games will be at 10:30am local time, and will feature the women’s quarterfinal games.
