Ga Southern Downs Grand Canyon in OT in Preview of Women’s IM Final

The women’s IM division at this year’s tournament played a true round robin for pool play with the top two teams advancing to tomorrow morning’s national championship game.  And, as luck would have it, the 2 remaining undefeated teams faced off at the end of round robin play creating a preview of tomorrow morning’s final (both had already clinched a spot in the finals).  The preview did not disappoint with an overtime needed to settle the score.

Georgia Southern outlasted Grand Canyon 40-37 in overtime behind 9 points from Young, including a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the final two minutes of regulation.  Down one, GCU got a steal and was fouled, hitting 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game at 34 and send it into OT.  In the overtime, Georgia Southern’s defense was the difference with a key block from #13.  The Eagles would build a 3-point lead and Grand Canyon could not hit on multiple 3-point attempts in the final seconds.

The teams will square off at 9:00 am in the first national championship game of the day at the RPAC on the Ohio State University campus.
