UCF, North Carolina A&T Will Battle for Women’s Title

The reigning champions will be back to defend their title, but this time against a new opponent.  UCF Check on It will look to defend its title this year against North Carolina A&T, which downed Angelo State in the semifinals after it eliminated 2015 finalist FAMU in the quarters.  The women’s national championship game is set for 10:30 am CT Sunday and will be webcast live at portal.stretchinternet.com/nirsa.

Southern battled UCF to a 7-7 tie at the half, before the UCF stepped up with a second half shutout.  Kristen Castilla had pair of touchdown receptions in the game and Bianca Lagos ran in an insurance TD with less than a minute left for UCF in the win.

North Carolina A&T had little trouble defeating Angelo State in its semifinal, 38-7.  Tiffany Ellick scored twice, Kaila Dob added a pick 6 and a TD reception, Alexis Williams had a TD reception and QB La’Quana Hordge ran in another in the A&T win.

In men’s quarterfinal action, A&T also picked up a victory, but in a much closer affair.  A&T denied a potential game-winning 2-point PAT attempt in the second overtime to prevail over Pensacola State 34-33.  Bryll Moss had 3 TD passes for A&T in its win.  NC A&T will face Valdosta State in the semifinals Sunday morning at 10:30 am.  Valdosta held off UTSA 19-14.

USF The Company avenged a pool play loss by downing Angelo State 33-7.  USF will face Georgia College in its semifinal on Sunday morning.  Georgia College downed Wisconsin 22-18.
