Texas State, Howard Advance in Women’s Playoffs

Jayme Prinz ran in her third touchdown of the day in the third overtime and Breonia Fowler’s interception ended Tennessee Tech’s attempt to tie as Texas State downed Tennessee Tech 25-19 to advance in the women’s championship playoffs.

Tech had taken a 13-0 lead with just 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter following the second TD pass from Andrea Grigsby to Katie Allen.  But, State drove the field scored, first on a Prinz to Haley Smith to cut the lead to 13-7.  Texas State got another chance and with two minutes remaining Prinz ran it the game-tying score.

Neither team scored in the first overtime period, then both posted 6 points in the 2nd.  Grigsby found Ginny Clayborne for Tennessee Tech score while Prinz scored on a QB keeper.  Neither team could convert the PAT.  Texas State scored first in the 3rd OT on Prinz’s run, and Fowler’s INT ended Tech’s chance to match.

Texas State advances to face UCF at 1:15 pm Central Time today, in a rematch from pool play won by UCF in OT.
