Ohio State’s Emily Makowski, Sarah Glenn, and Kiley Maxwell hit on their shots from the mark and goalkeeper Marissa Wintrow stopped 1st and 4th PK attempt by Penn State and the last attempt sailed wide left as the Buckeyes outlasted the Nittany Lions 3-2 in PKs to advance to the women’s championship semifinals on Sunday morning at 10:00 am CT. The teams entered extra time tied at 1. Emily Russell scored for Ohio State in the first half, Corinne Leach netted a Penn State goal in the second.
Ohio State’s semifinal opponent is North Carolina, a 3-0 winner over UConn. Leah Levey, Isabella Reiss, and Olivia Holmes scored for the Tar Heels in the win.
For the men, Cincinnati took control of its match with Wisconsin early and fought off the Badgers for a 2-0 victory in quarterfinal action. Matthew-David Burton and Mitchell Galvin recorded the goals for the Bearcats. Virginia scored early on a strike from the top of the 18 from Tyler Miller-Jones, then held off a number of second half rallies from Delaware including a furious final minute to hold on for a 1-0 victory.
Cincinnati and Virginia will meet in the men’s semifinals Sunday morning at 10:00 am CT at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
