Michigan State and Colorado State needed extra time once again to settle their rematch of the 2015 national title game, with the Spartans again coming out on top, 1-0 with a golden goal by Haley Verbeek in the extra period. The match was strong contest with action throughout, yet defense was ruling the match through regulation time.
Michigan State advances to face UC Santa Barbara Saturday morning at 10:00 am CT. UCSB downed Texas A&M 2-0. The Gauchos got goals from Lindsay Ringman before the half and Hannah Peck after.
Baris Demirlioglu scored the go-ahead goal in the second half as San Diego State held off a late charge from Stanford to eliminate the Cardinal 2-1 in men’s championship quarterfinal action at 4:00 pm this afternoon at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Aleks Berkolds got the Aztecs on the board first with an early goal, but Younes Bensouda Mourri evened the match at 1 with Stanford’s only goal of the match.
San Diego State will face Ohio State in the men’s championship semifinals on Saturday morning at 10:00 am CT. Ohio State shutout Texas A&M 3-0 behind goals from Mike McCune, Brock Hersch, and Nikola Popovich.
Two more quarterfinals in each division get underway at 6:00 pm CT tonight.
