Men’s Championship Round of 16 Wrap Up Part I

We will have a new national champion in the men’s division.

Texas A&M scored twice to go up 2-0 in the match with goals from Tristan Honaker (late in the first half) and Connor Cahill in the 2nd.  An Adam Campbell 2nd half goal for UNC made it 2-1 but it was not enough as Texas A&M won 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.

They will take on Ohio State who made it through to the quarterfinals with their own 2-1 victory over Colorado State.  Ohio State scored the first 2 as well with goals from Nikola Popovich and Thomas Gullo.  A 2nd half Colorado State goal was not enough as Ohio State advances to play Texas A&M in the quarterfinals later this afternoon.

Stanford and Minnesota went into extra time to decide their match.  Stanford led 2-0 with goals from Michael Angell and Mark Verso on a PK.  The lead lasted until late in the 2nd half when Sam Casey scored twice within minutes to square the match.  In extra time, Stanford’s Desmond Mitchell scored a 13th minute golden goal to give Stanford the win.

San Diego State cruised to a 3-0 victory over Colorado School of Mines.  Antoni Torres scored twice while Ross Holden put the game out of reach with the third to advance to the quarterfinals.  Stanford and San Diego State play later this afternoon  in the quarterfinals.
