A rematch of last year’s national championship match is set for this year’s quarterfinals round as Colorado State and Michigan State won Round of 16 games to start women’s championship playoff action today at 10:00 am at Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Alabama.

Katherine Collins scored in the 4th minute and the Spartans added a second half goal to defeat Kansas 2-0.  After Julia Bruno scored for Miami (Ohio) in the 3rd minute enroute to a 1-0 halftime advantage, Colorado State regained the lead on goals from Jade Hilbert and Carly Seib to hold off the Redhawks 2-1 and advance.  Michigan State and Colorado State, last year’s finalist, will play today at 4:00 pm CT in the quarterfinals.

The top match of the morning was on field 5 where Texas A&M and Colorado (Gold) were knotted at 1 goal apiece after 105 minutes (90+15 OT) of play.  Mycah Miller scored for the Aggies in the first half.  Midori Patterson tied it for the Buffaloes in the 81st minute.

The match was decided on PKs, and A&M goalkeeper Courtney Limmer was up for the challenge, saving 3 Buffalo shots. Paige Trahan scored upper left on A&M’s 5th shot for the 3-2 PK advantage.  Texas A&M advances to face UC Santa Barbara, a 1-0 winner over Gonzaga.  Hannah Peck scored the match’s lone goal for the Gauchos.
