Day 1 of the tournament is always fun and competitive.  We are winding down the teams that will compete for the open division championships.  We now have 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams who will compete for the national title beginning on Friday.

In the men’s open division, defending champion Oregon is trying to get out of a tough pool with James Madison right with them.

In the women’s open division, defending champion UCLA is on pace to return to the open bracket play to defend their crown.

In the men’s championship division there are many contenders but defending champion North Carolina is right there again ready to lay claim to the title again.  There are strong teams like Stanford, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Ohio State and San Diego State that are around to end Carolina’s dream of a repeat.

Finally, in the women’s championship division defending champion Michigan State is ready to defend their title.  Colorado State was a step away and is back to try to claim what was almost theirs. We know they won’t face each other for the title as they are on the same side of the bracket.  Which means someone new, like North Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State, UCONN or Colorado “Gold” could now challenge for the national championship.

The dream ended for 16 men’s and women’s teams Thursday.  The dream continues for 32 of them.  Friday is moving day and by the end of the day only 4 men’s and 4 women’s teams will still have that national championship dream going into Championship Saturday.

We hope you will join us tomorrow to find out which teams will still have that dream of a national championship come Saturday.

Until Friday…Good night!
